X and Twitter Handle Availability Checker

Check if an X handle, Twitter handle, or username may be available before you try to claim it. Use this as an X username checker, Twitter handle availability checker, or bulk username checker by separating multiple ideas with commas or spaces (up to 10).

    @

For bulk checking, enter multiple usernames separated by commas or spaces (e.g., johnsmith, janedoe alexlee)

    Username Requirements

    • Can only contain letters, numbers, and underscores (_)
    • Can be up to 15 characters long
    • Cannot contain spaces or special characters
    • Is case-insensitive (john and JOHN are the same)

X's current registration guidance says handles cannot be longer than 15 characters. Its username-change guidance also says handles must be more than 4 characters, so a direct profile check is only the first signal for very short handles. Read X's username guidance and username-change guidance .

    Tips

    • 💡Keep it under 10 characters for memorability
    • 💡Avoid numbers unless they're part of your brand
    • 💡Use the same username across all platforms
    • 💡Consider future-proofing (avoid trends)

How to tell if a Twitter handle is available

Open the exact X profile URL for the handle. If X shows that the account does not exist, the handle may be available; if a profile loads, it is already taken. Some names can still be reserved, suspended, or blocked by X.

    • Check both the current X wording and older Twitter handle wording.
    • Try one underscore or a short brand modifier if the exact handle is taken.
    • Use the cross-platform checker before announcing a new X handle.

After you claim the X handle

Connect X inside TheBlue.social, claim the matching Bluesky handle if it matters, and schedule the first posts before the new handle goes quiet.

    Keep the new handle active

A claimed handle is only useful if people see it. Schedule the first X posts, then cross-post to Bluesky, Threads, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Mastodon from the same workflow.
